What’s involved?
Reminiscence Therapy (RT) is a type of psychotherapy that involves recalling past events. By returning to these past incidents, people feel pleasure. Often employed with older people, this type of life review therapy improves a person’s sense of well-being.
BENEFITS OF REMINISCENCE THERAPY
Research shows that this kind of therapy improves self-esteem and comforts older patients. When older people are reminded of bygone days, they become eager to communicate with others. They gain a sense of fulfillment in sharing past episodes of their lives.
Has positive effects on quality of life, cognition, communication, and mood
Decreases stress and reduces depressive symptoms by sparking feelings of joy
Suitable for those with dementia as they generally are able to recall past events better than recent events
Props (visual and audio reminiscence) are used to help trigger a memory and help the individual share thoughts and feelings.
Can be done 1:1 or in a group setting (up to 5)
We coordinate with you to provide onsite Reminiscence Group Therapy at your location.*
Reminiscence Group Therapy is provided on-site and facilitated by Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), Jennifer Murdock.
This group meets in-person for 60-90 minute sessions. Each group will have 5-10 participants and ideally takes place in a location (on-site) that minimizes noises and distractions.
